Miss Lisa invites you to join her for some family-friendly seasonal nature walks in the area. Together we will explore the salt marsh, the woods, and more. We will look for birds, mammals, and of course, mushrooms! We'll use our "science eyes" and "nature ears" and learn, play, and discover together.
March 22: Who's Awake? (Deer Island, Amesbury)
Spring has arrived and its time to see which wild animals are out and about making nests, hatching from eggs, calling out for mates and searching for food. Let's find out which animals are active and look for their tracks along the Merrimack River.
CANCELLED March 24: Winter Mammals (Joppa Flats Education Center/Riverside Yard, Newburyport)
Some mammals build up fat, make winter homes, and sleep all winter. Let's find out who these animals are, and with games and experiments, learn all about how they prepare, survive and welcome spring!
NEW! March 29: Signs of Spring on the Coast (Salisbury Beach State Reservation)
Before boating season begins, lets head out to the mouth of the Merrimack and see if we can spot the Harbor Seals hauled out on the rocks at low tide!
April 5: Wake Up Spring! (Hans Morris Reservation, Newbury)
In early spring, our wetlands are warming up, and the tiny insects and snails are awake and looking for food. Let's see what creatures we can discover living in flooded meadows and small streams. Frogs are calling and birds are singing, which means spring is coming! Let's explore a spring pool and see what signs of life we can find.
April 12: Spring on the River (Joppa Flats Salt Marsh, Newburyport)
Life in a salt marsh comes back every spring with new grasses, returning egrets, herons, and shorebirds. Once again the "nursery of the sea" is bursting with fish and tiny creatures. Let's explore and learn about them and why their habitat is so important.
