Step into a summer evening of wonder and discovery at the North River Wildlife Sanctuary Firefly Fest. Whether you call them fireflies, lightning bugs, or glow worms, these bioluminescent beetles are famous for their breathtaking nighttime displays—flashing in harmony among the forest and grasses of the sanctuary.
Begin your adventure by diving into the fascinating lives of fireflies through family-friendly activities, interactive touch tables, games, photo opportunities, and hands-on fun that bring the world of insects to life.
As dusk settles, head out to the meadow and watch the sanctuary come alive as twilight fades and nature’s light show sparkles all around you. Nature stations set up around the trail provide easy access to expert naturalists ready to share fun facts and answer your questions.
