The striking physical appearance, amazing adaptations, and unique behaviors of owls have inspired centuries of mystery and legend across cultures. Populating all but one continent, owls often introduce people to the fascinating lives of birds and the nocturnal world. This online program will focus on the 7 owl species found in Massachusetts and their significance in local habitats. Learn the best times, locations, and methods for observing owls, and how to identify them by sight and sound. Learn about local owl banding, research, and conservation efforts, and meet some of Mass Audubon's live owl wildlife ambassadors.

Each weekly session will include optional, self-directed outdoor observation exercises and a 30-minute follow-up discussion session the following week, providing an opportunity for you to observe owls and their habitats, and share your discoveries and questions with classmates and presenters.
