Great Blue Herons are deep observers, fast movers, and are vital to their habitat. This group is for our students ages 9 to 11 who will hike farther, learn more complex natural history concepts, and do more challenging projects.

Highlights this Fall will include creative building challenges each class inspired by wildlife and wild places. Using mostly natural building materials found right here on the sanctuary we will create flying contraptions, floating mini boats, strong shelters, and much more. Simple parts of nature that kids love like sticks, mud, rocks, swirling wind, and rushing water will guide us to a deeper understanding of physics, engineering, and teamwork.

September 21: Nature's Amazing Materials

September 28: Building Beaver Dams

October 5: How Birds, Bats, and Bugs Fly High in the Field

October 12: What Floats Your Boat?

October 19: Bark Beetles, Termites, and Carpenter Creatures

October 26: Spiders and Other Wild Web Weavers

November 2: Who Dug It? At Home in the Dirt

November 9: Strong, Soft, and Safe Stick Shelters

* If needed, we will have a make-up class on November 16th.
