Each outing will begin with a short introduction indoors before going outside for a walk. We'll explore the topics listed below, but stop to investigate anything of interest that crosses our path. These walks are a wonderful introduction to the sanctuary for the whole family. Sign up for one or more!
September 15: Meadow Exploration
A meadow with grasses and wildflowers is home to many insects, from bees and butterflies to grasshoppers and crickets. Take a walk to a meadow to see how many different wildflowers you can find, and then take a closer look at insects using nets and collecting jars.
October 6: Pond Exploration
Though they are small, ponds contain a rich variety of plant and animal life. Explore Waterfowl Pond for a close-up look at a place where hungry creatures are always on the hunt. Using nets and other collecting equipment, dip into the water, sweep through the weeds, and scoop up mud to discover the creatures that live there.
November 3: Cool Camouflage
In order to survive, animals use many disguises. They can stay very still, blend in with their surroundings, and even change color. Take a hike to look for these secretive creatures that hide themselves from prying eyes.
December 8: Forest Exploration
Walk with us through the forest to see how the changing season affects animals, trees, and plants. Examine tree holes, look for animals in the leaves, and observe what is eating and being eaten in the woods.
Meets in the Nature Center. Please dress for the weather.
