Spring ephemerals grow in deciduous forests but only last for a short amount of time. Many wildflowers like skunk cabbage, our earliest blooming ephemeral, take advantage of the available sunlight before trees leaf out and shade the ground. We'll search for trout lily, Canada mayflower, trilliums and other beautiful spring arrivals. These plants will bloom, set seed, and start to die back by the end of May so it's time to get out and look for them while we discuss how to protect them.
