Description
Twilight is one of the best times to look for wildlife, especially from a canoe. On this calm-water paddle, you'll travel at an easy pace with frequent stops to scan coves and listen for movement along the shoreline.
With an experienced Mass Audubon naturalist as your guide, you'll learn about wetland habitats, the wildlife that depends on them, and why waterways are vital to the Berkshires. This paddle will explore a calm stretch of the Housatonic River lined with wildflowers where beavers, turtles, muskrats, and wetland-loving birds make their homes.

Be prepared for about an hour of steady paddling that requires the ability to bend and lift your knees to get in and out of the canoe; the footing at the boat launch may be uneven or slippery. Bring a water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, and footwear that can get wet such as water shoes; snacks and a dry bag or zip bag for valuables are optional.
Mass Audubon policy requires that every participant wears a life vest during the program; you may borrow one from us or bring your own. If weather or other conditions could affect your program, your guide will contact you by email at least 24 hours in advance.
