Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, September 2, 2025

Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between August 20 and September 2, 2025.

Up to three Mississippi Kites continued to be seen in a small area of South Sandwich this week.

Birds seen on South Monomoy included 15 Blue-winged Teal, 6 Ruddy Ducks, 2 Common Gallinules, an American Coot, and 5 Pied-billed Grebes.

A Sabine’s Gull, a Little Gull, a Baird’s Sandpiper, and a Buff-breasted Sandpiper were seen at Race Point in Provincetown, where other sightings included 2 American Golden-Plovers, 2 Whimbrels, 12 Red-necked Phalaropes, a Great Cormorant, a Long-tailed Jager, 550 Roseate Terns, 6 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, 50 Cory’s Shearwaters, 50 Great Shearwaters, and 81 Manx Shearwaters.

Birds at Wellfleet Bay sanctuary included a Clapper Rail, 10 Whimbrel, 2 Little Blue Herons, 2 Northern Harriers, an Olive-sided Flycatcher, a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, and 2 Saltmarsh Sparrows.

Other sightings around the Cape included a Hooded Warbler and a Dickcissel at Peterson Farm in Falmouth, 3 Bald Eagles and a Canada Warbler at Nickerson State Park in Brewster, and an Olive-sided Flycatcher at High Head in Truro.
