Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, October 6, 2026
Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between September 30 and October 6, 2026.
A Bell’s Vireo was reported from Putnam Farm in Orleans on Saturday.
A Lark Sparrow was discovered at Fort Hill in Eastham this week, and another was at Provincetown airport.
The Crested Caracara continued at Duck Harbor in Wellfleet this week.
Birds at Race Point in Provincetown included 7 Parasitic Jaegers, 2 Pomarine Jaegers, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, an Iceland Gull, 2 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, 8 Northern Fulmar, 230 Cory’s Shearwater, 75 Great Shearwaters, 62 Manx Shearwaters, 95 Northern Gannets, 9 Common Ravens, and 15 American Pipits.
Birds in Nauset Marsh in Eastham this week included 500 Semipalmated Plovers, 5 Long-billed Dowitchers, 20 White-rumped Sandpipers, 8 Western Sandpipers, 4 Pectoral Sandpiper, and 4 Saltmarsh Sparrows.
Birds on the southern end of Stellwagen Bank included 2 Pomarine Jaegers, 2 Black-legged Kittiwakes, a Sabine’s Gull, 1680 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, 2 Leach’s Storm-Petrels, 34 Northern Fulmars, 26 Cory’s Shearwaters, 735 Great Shearwaters, a Sooty Shearwater, 378 Manx Shearwaters, 68 Northern Gannets, and a surprise flyover Glossy Ibis.
Sightings from the south end of Monomoy NWR included 5 Northern Pintail, 2 Northern Shoveler, 2 Blue-winged Teal, 36 Green-winged Teal, a Ring-necked Duck, a Ruddy Duck, 7 American Coot, 3 Pied-billed Grebes, a Black-billed Cuckoo, Wilson’s Phalarope, and an American Bittern.
Lingering Ruby-throated Hummingbirds were seen in Harwich and Falmouth, and other sightings around the Cape included a Summer Tanager in Barnstable, 4 Yellow-crowned Night-Herons in West Barnstable, a Gray-cheeked Thrush and a Connecticut Warbler at Wing Island in Brewster, single Hooded Warblers at Wellfleet Bay sanctuary and Wing Island, a Baird’s Sandpiper continuing at Crosby Beach in Brewster, and a Canada Warbler at Fort Hill in Eastham, 8 Razorbills off the bay side of Eastham, a Black Guillemot in North Truro, a Prothonotary Warbler at Provincetown airport, and a Caspian Tern in Provincetown Harbor.
