Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, May 6, 2025

Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between April 30 and May 6, 2025.

A Swallow-tailed Kite continues to be seen near Santuit Pond in Mashpee, with another sighting in Marstons Mills last week. Other sightings at Santuit Pond included a Tricolored Heron and a Ring-necked Duck.

Three Mississippi Kites were reported in Chatham on the 4th.

Single Summer Tanagers were reported at feeders in Orleans and Wellfleet this week.

The Pacific Loon on Great Pond in Eastham was last reported on April 30.

Birds at Race Point in Provincetown this week included 8 American Oystercatchers, a Razorbill, a Common Murre, a Parasitic Jaeger, a Glaucous Gull, a Least Tern, 7 Roseate Terns, 56 Common Terns, 3 Manx Shearwaters, and 125 Northern Gannets.

Sightings in Falmouth included a Blue Grosbeak at Crane WMA in Falmouth, a Black Vulture at Peterson Farm, and breeding Worm-eating Warblers back at Falmouth Town Forest.

A Black-headed Gull was in Osterville again this week, and other sightings around the Cape included 4 American Wigeon in Chatham, a Yellow-billed Cuckoo in Brewster, an American Bittern at Wellfleet Bay sanctuary, and a Yellow-breasted Chat in North Truro.
