Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, July 28, 2026
Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between July 22 and July 28, 2026.
A Bridled Tern, almost certainly the very tame bird summering on Scituate Harbor, tried to land on the back of a birder at Race Point on Sunday.
Other birds at Race Point included an Atlantic Puffin, a Black Guillemot, a Sabine’s Gull, 100 Roseate Terns, 4 Red Knots, 17 Piping Plovers, 148 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, and small numbers of all four species of shearwater.
A Brown Booby passed First Encounter in Eastham on the 23rd.
Three Swallow-tailed Kites were again in Barnstable this week, mostly along rt 28 in Cotuit.
Other sightings around the Cape included a Harlequin Duck in Mashpee, 2 Little Blue Herons in West Barnstable, a Little Blue Heron in Harwich, 2 Royal Terns in Orleans, at least 2 Chuck-will’s-Widows continuing at Nauset Light Beach in Eastham, 2 Western Sandpipers in Nauset Marsh in Eastham, and an American Golden-Plover and a Western Sandpiper at First Landing Park in Provincetown.
