Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, January 27, 2026
Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between January 21 and January 27, 2026.
A male Painted Bunting continues in Brewster while a female plumaged bird showed up at a feeder in Dennis this week.
Continuing birds at Mill Pond in Marstons Mills include an American Bittern, a Northern Pintail, 8 Green-winged Teal, and a Red-shouldered Hawk.
A Short-eared Owl and a Northern Shrike continue at Crane WMA in Falmouth.
Birds at Race Point in Provincetown included an out of season Sooty Shearwater, a Pacific Loon, 1188 Razorbills, 3 Common Murres, 12 Black-legged Kittiwakes, a Glaucous Gull, and 25 Iceland Gulls.
Reports from Cold Brook Preserve in Harwich included at least 4 continuing Northern Shovelers, 33 Gadwall, 6 Green-winged Teal, 2 Lesser Scaup, and 2 continuing Tree Swallows.
Other sightings around the Cape included single Eastern Phoebes in Falmouth and Marstons Mills, a Baltimore Oriole in Mashpee, a continuing Eurasian Wigeon in Yarmouth Port and two more in Sandwich, 2 Barrow’s Goldeneyes at Loop Beach in Cotuit and up to 3 more in Wellfleet Harbor, a Black-headed Gull in Hyannis, a Semipalmated Plover in Barnstable Harbor, single Chipping Sparrows at feeding stations several places, a Baltimore Oriole in South Harwich, 5 Western Willets in Chatham, an Orange-crowned Warbler and a Bohemian Waxwing in Orleans, 7 Harlequin Ducks and a Northern Pintail in Provincetown Harbor, and a Northern Shoveler at the Beech Forest in Provincetown.
