Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between August 20 and 26, 2025.
Between one and three Mississippi Kites were seen various places in Sandwich this week.
A Sabine’s Gull, a Buff-breasted Sandpiper, and a Pacific Loon were seen at Race Point in Provincetown, where other sightings included 4 Red-necked Phalaropes, a Long-tailed Jager, 4 Parasitic Jaegers, a Pomarine Jaeger, a Sabine’s Gull, 3500 Laughing Gulls, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 3 Forster’s Terns, 5000 Common Terns, 2200 Roseate Terns, 45 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, 2750 Cory’s Shearwaters, 1650 Great Shearwaters, 70 Sooty Shearwaters, and 45 Manx Shearwaters were seen at Race Point in Provincetown.
Birds in Chatham included a Northern Pintail at Star Bog, 121 American Oystercatchers and a Western Sandpiper at Morris Island, and a Little Blue Heron, a Marbled Godwit, a Red Knot, and 5 Whimbrels at Forest Beach.
At High Head in Truro sightings of some early fall migrant songbirds included 2 Warbling Vireos, a Blue-winged Warbler, 3 American Redstarts, 7 Prairie Warblers, and a Canada Warbler, plus 2000 Tree Swallows.
Other sightings around the Cape included a Black Skimmer in Mashpee, single Little Blue Herons in Orleans and Wellfleet, and a Worm-eating Warbler in Eastham.
