Canoeing & Paddling in the Berkshires

Experience nature from a new perspective—the seat of a canoe! Our seasoned naturalists will guide you through local lakes and rivers around the Berkshires during off-site public programs and custom trips. More than just a scenic paddle with breathtaking views, you’ll leave with a newfound understanding of our waters and the wildlife that lives there.  

Custom Canoe Trips

Gather your family, friends, co-workers, club members, and fellow nature-enthusiasts for an unforgettable experience where you’ll bond over a shared love of outdoor adventure.   

Who: Private groups of up to 10 people, ages 10+ 

When: June–September, Wednesdays–Sundays 

Where: Housatonic River via the George L. Darey Housatonic Valley Wildlife Management Area in Lenox, MA. Contact us to discuss other potential locations. 

Canoes, paddles and life vests are provided. All participants must know how to swim and wear their life vest. Canoeing requires the ability to bend at the waist and lift the legs toward the chest in order to safely get in and out of the boat. Contact us if anyone in your group has questions or needs related to accessibility on our canoe trips.

Pleasant Valley Canoeing Programs 

From June through September, our off-site paddling programs offer unforgettable nature experiences in the heart of the Berkshires, led by our expert Pleasant Valley naturalists. Watch for swallows, herons, ducks, muskrats, and signs of beavers along the scenic Housatonic River in Lenox. Moonlight Canoe Trips, held once a month at October Mountain State Forest, offer the possibility of seeing or hearing owls and other wildlife. 

Everything you need will be provided—canoes, paddles, life vests, and experienced guides who are happy to lend a hand! All of our canoe trips are beginner-friendly and take place at locations with no perceivable current.
