Accessibility at Ipswich River

Mass Audubon strives to create a welcoming presence for a wide range of visitors, including making our sanctuaries and nature centers more accessible for all to enjoy.

Accessible Amenities

  • Visitor Center
  • Restrooms
  • Nature Center
  • Barn
  • Nature Classroom
  • Picnic areas

A sturdy Rollator is available for use anytime the Visitor Center is open. Please inquire within and/or reserve in advance by emailing [email protected].

Parking and entry walkways include surfaces of gravel, stone dust, paved asphalt, or wooden ramp.

We are in the process of designing a universally accessible All Persons Trail, which we plan to open at the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary in late 2027 or 2028. The trail will be connected with designated accessible parking.

Sensory-Friendly Hours are held quarterly on Saturdays from 8:00-10:00am, a time in which there are reduced number of visitors, no noisy stewardship activity happening, and a quieter environment. Additionally, an indoor space will be open for self-guided sensory-friendly activity. Staff in our Visitor Center can direct families to the appropriate trail depending on preferences such as noise, sunlight/shade, distance, and grade. Tentative dates include:

  • July 18, 2026
  • November 14, 2026
  • February 13, 2027
  • May 8, 2027
