Colorful leaves and crisp air are on the horizon, and we’re gearing up for an exciting season. Get the scoop about what we’ve been up to and what to look forward to in the coming months.
Meet Your Guides to Nature
Enrich your visit by connecting with our new Nature Guides. These volunteers will chat and answer your questions about the farm, wildlife, and beyond. At various stations in the farmyard, they run hands-on educational activities to engage both kids and adults, deepening your understanding of the sanctuary, its animals, and the natural world.
This summer, they’ve covered topics like bird adaptations, summer vegetables, and pollinators. We’re keeping in touch with the seasons, which means new themes are coming this fall. Activities vary, so you’re always sure to learn something new.
Meet a Nature Guides down by the farm center on most Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 am-1:00 pm as well as most Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am-4:00 pm.
Caught in Action: Trail Cam Updates
Ever wondered what the creatures in the sanctuary are up to after hours? With trail cameras, we’re able to find out. These discreet devices record continuous audio and video, allowing us to get a more authentic glimpse at animal behavior without disturbing them.
We’ve captured some fascinating activity and surprise wildlife sightings recently. Here’s a few:
A big thank you to volunteer Chris Leigh-Manuell who manages these trail cameras, making it possible for us to more effectively gather information about our resident wildlife (and providing us with endless entertainment).
Fall-oween on the Farm Returns
This year, our all-day autumn extravaganza is back and better than ever.
On Saturday, October 24, from 9:00 am-5:00 pm, dress up in your best costume and come out for a celebration of all things fall. Wander through the vibrant foliage as the farm takes on that iconic New England beauty, take an exclusive hayride through the fields, and roll around in the Hay Play area. Stations around the farm will feature crafts, games, facepainting, and storytelling sessions with the one-and-only Drumlin Witch. Meet a wildlife ambassador up-close, then visit the Creepy Critter Mansion to see snakes, insects, and other spooky creatures.
Stick around to dance to the Harmony Highway Band as they fill the farm with lively tunes, enjoy food options from local food truck vendors as well as cider, doughnuts, and other classic fall treats. In addition, we’ve heard your feedback from last year and added some quality-of-life improvements, like having the option to skip the line by purchasing your ticket via your phone.

New Animals are Moving into the Neighborhood
Last but certainly not least, three new animals will debut at the farm very soon.
While we’re not ready to reveal them yet, what we can say is that two will come as a pair and move into the farmyard sometime in late September or early October. Hint: They’re the same type of mammal featured as a comedic sidekick in a beloved animated movie.
The other new animal has already arrived and is spending some time in our wildlife care facility getting acclimated. She’ll be there for the next month or so adjusting to her new caretakers, after which she will be slowly introduced to her outdoor enclosure (and the roommates she’ll be living with). We can’t fully predict how long this process will take, but hopefully she will be out and about around late October. If you’re sly, you might be able to guess what she is…
Stay tuned and keep an eye on our social media for the big reveal!
