Nature Hero Spotlight: Cait Houghton

Cait Houghton with one of Felix Neck's resident snakes

Cait Houghton is a year-round Island resident who was born in Colorado and raised on the Vineyard. She's been involved in a pilot internship program at Felix Neck for young adults with learning disabilities.

Since September 2019, Cait has been visiting the sanctuary once a week to spend a few hours helping with all sorts of tasks. She's assisted the new Fern & Feather Preschool staff, provided office administrative help, helped with property projects such as revamping the labyrinth, and more.

Recently, we sat down with Cait to talk about her experiences. We also found out she has a great plan to survive winter on the Vineyard, just like some of the Island's dormant animals!

What's your favorite part of working at Felix Neck?

Getting in touch with nature!

How do you "survive" the winter season?

By curling up on the couch to watch movies. I also go outside when it's nice and spend time with my family.

What's your favorite outdoor winter activity?

Walking!

Do you have a favorite way to warm up after being outdoors?

After being outside, I get cozy by putting on warm and comfy clothes. Then I cozy up on the couch under a blanket.

We're so glad Cait has chosen to spend her winter here with us at the sanctuary. She's such a great addition to our team! Thanks, Cait.
