Description
Think winter is a slow season for birds on Cape Cod? Think again.
Ducks, loons, and grebes crowd the open water from midwinter into early spring, and a Wellfleet Bay naturalist will get you close to them, first at the sanctuary and then wherever the birding is best that morning. You'll learn to tell one diving duck from the next by shape, posture, and behavior, and pick up the habits that make winter waterbirds so rewarding to watch.
Be prepared to caravan from the sanctuary, since the best birds move with the weather.
