Description
Cold-stunned sea turtles begin washing ashore on Cape Cod Bay beaches each fall, and this program puts you at the center of the rescue effort. Start at Wellfleet Bay for an indoor presentation on sea turtle biology, behavior, and the cold-stun phenomenon, then step into the sea turtle lab for a behind-the-scenes look at how data is collected and animals are prepared for transport.
From there, you'll carpool to a local beach to search the wrack line for cold-stunned juvenile turtles, with time to observe and learn about other marine life along the way. The beach location is determined the day of the program based on wind and tide conditions.
Please note that this is an educational program and not a training to become a Mass Audubon volunteer.
