Description
Bound Brook Island sits in one of the most remote corners of Wellfleet, a stretch of land where the Cape Cod National Seashore has preserved both wild coastline and the memory of a farming community that thrived here in the 19th century. On this guided hike, you'll circle the island on foot with a Wellfleet Bay naturalist, covering four miles of dirt roads, isolated shoreline, and open land shaped by both human history and coastal forces.
Stops along the way trace the island's layered past, including the historic Atwood-Higgins House, while barrier beach, salt marsh, and maritime forest stretch out in every direction. Watch for winter birds and coastal wildlife throughout, and plan for a lunch break mid-route.
Portions of the hike traverse soft sand, so pack water, snacks or a brown bag lunch, and layers for a full morning outdoors.
