Guided Kayak Trip: The History of Great Island

Description

Great Island is a three-mile barrier beach and one of the most remote and rewarding destinations on the Outer Cape.

On this guided kayak tour, you'll journey out of the Herring River basin and along Great Island's dramatic glacial shoreline with an experienced Wellfleet Bay naturalist and paddler. A stop at the historic Great Island Tavern Site uncovers its surprising connection to local whaling history, while a winding passage along salt marsh alive with coastal wildlife gives way to a secluded beach with time to explore the shallows, enjoy lunch, and cool off. You'll also learn about the Herring River Restoration, one of the largest salt marsh restoration projects in the Northeast.
