Description
August brings one of birding's great events to Nauset Marsh—the southbound shorebird migration—and there's no better vantage point than the water. Guided by an experienced Wellfleet Bay naturalist and paddler, you'll meander through the winding tidal channels of this expansive salt marsh system, scanning for Semipalmated Plovers, Short-billed Dowitchers, Greater Yellowlegs, and more as they stage along their journey south. Herons, egrets, ospreys, and gatherings of gray seals are likely companions along the way.
Throughout the excursion, you'll learn how salt marshes like Nauset support shorebirds during their migration and how Mass Audubon's restoration work helps keep these critical habitats intact.
