Guided Kayak Trip: The History and Wildlife of Nauset Marsh

Description

Nauset Marsh, an expansive, winding salt marsh system, is the heart of the Cape Cod National Seashore with layers of natural and cultural history waiting to be uncovered.

Guided by an experienced Wellfleet Bay naturalist and paddler, you'll meander through tidal channels with views stretching out to the Atlantic, encountering staging shorebirds, herons, egrets, and gray seals along the way.

As you paddle, you'll uncover the history of Fort Hill, discover traces of a French transatlantic telegraph cable, and hear the words of Henry Beston, who found his inspiration for The Outermost House right here in this landscape. Salt marshes like this one are critical buffers for coastal resilience, and you'll come away with a new understanding of why protecting them matters.
