Friday Night Speaker Series - Tracking Kestrels With Radio Telemetry

Description

The MOTUS wildlife tracking network is a new technology being used to document the movements of birds throughout the world. Some of the highest densities of MOTUS receiving stations are found in Massachusetts and New England making this an ideal area to use this technology to learn about the movement patterns of migratory birds. In fact, one of these stations can be found at the Wachusett Meadow Sanctuary. Over the last two years, we have been placing MOTUS tracking tags on American Kestrels, the smallest and most colorful falcon in North America. Come and learn from the Massachusetts State Ornithologist about the MOTUS tracking network and how it is being used to investigate the annual movements of kestrels that nest in Massachusetts.

This program is one part of our popular speaker series for adults. Lecturers, professionals and community guests, who share enthusiasm for the natural world, will present on a variety of topics. Small groups allow easy opportunities for questions and a chance to meet and talk with the speakers after the program. By registering for the series, you get access to all four sessions for the price of three. You do not need to register for other sessions, or the full series, to enjoy this one.
