Description
Witness flashing fields of dancing fireflies on this warm summer evening with family. We'll head out on the trails as daylight fades, scanning the meadow and forest edge for the light show to begin. Learn what triggers the flash, why different species produce different patterns, and where fireflies make their homes across the sanctuary's varied habitats.
Plus, fireflies are just one part of the evening soundtrack at Wachusett Meadow; the calls of nocturnal birds and insects make the walk as rich for the ears as it is for the eyes. Discover how all of these species connect with each other and why protecting their homes is so important. Expect to hike less than one mile.
