Early Morning Summer Birding

Description

Wake up with a stroll through forests, fields and wetlands in search of birds as they begin their day's activities. Adults and juveniles of many species including colorful wood-warblers, orioles, thrushes, and more are possible for us to see this time of year.

This beginner-friendly walk will focus on the basics of bird-finding and identification as well as observing the behavior of the birds we can see. We will pause and enjoy observing birds rather than focusing on maintaining an intensive list of every bird in the area.

Bring your own binoculars or borrow a loaner pair from us. This program is offered at a variety of locations. For more information about the site and terrain for this program, see below.

Pre-registration is recommended. If the program is not full, a limited number of walk-ins can be accommodated with cash or check in exact change. Credit card payments are for pre-registrations only.

Instructions

Meet in front of the Greylock Glen Outdoor Center. Your guide will arrive at the meeting spot 15 minutes before the program's start time to welcome anyone who arrives early.

Dress to be comfortable in the predicted weather, including footwear that can potentially get wet or muddy depending on recent weather. Bring your own binoculars or borrow a loaner pair from us.

Distance covered during the bird walk could vary significantly depending on the number of birds we see. We may cover up to 1.7 miles on a wide, gravel-paved, level or gently sloping trail.

Directions to the Greylock Glen Outdoor Center:

1. As you travel on Fred Mason Road in Adams, turn onto Gould Road near Jaeschke Orchards.

2. Follow Gould Road up the hill. Turn left to stay on Gould Road. Do not continue straight onto Thiel Road, or you'll end up on an unpaved road leading to a water tower.

3. Follow Gould Road a short distance until it starts to curve to the right. Turn right into a driveway leading into the Greylock Glen parking lot, marked by a Greylock Glen banner sign. You will end up in a large, paved parking lot with the Outdoor Center visible.
