A Nature Journaling Year at Pleasant Valley

Description

Looking closely and drawing what you see is one of the best ways to appreciate what you might otherwise walk right past.

Over the course of twelve monthly gatherings at Pleasant Valley, you will build a journaling practice alongside a friendly community of adults, guided by a naturalist who will explain what you are seeing in nature. Each session begins indoors before heading out to explore and search for your muse. The focus is close observation rather than art technique, so no prior drawing experience is needed.

Watching one place change across a full year builds a richer memory than any single visit can. Build a journal that, by the end of the year, will be filled with a chronology of your time outdoors and growing skillset.

What To Expect

Each session begins with an introduction to journaling techniques and materials before heading out for nature journaling on the trails. The outdoor pace is slow, with frequent stops and long stationary periods, and never involves fast or strenuous walking, suitable for a wide range of physical abilities.

Sessions are rescheduled only when weather will severely affect roads in Lenox; in other inclement weather, part or all of the program moves indoors.

More details on what to bring and expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
