Description
In November, beavers at Pleasant Valley enter one of their most active phases of the year, stockpiling food and maintaining their ponds in a race against winter. On this evening walk, you'll head to the areas of the sanctuary with the highest beaver activity, scanning for movement and learning to read the signs that reveal where beavers are living.
While wild beaver sightings are likely but never guaranteed, you will leave knowing how to interpret the landscape around you: from chewed stumps and scent posts to canals and dams that have shaped Pleasant Valley for decades. Your naturalist will also share the remarkable history of beaver conservation and reintroduction in Massachusetts.

Instructions
Meet in front of the red barn at Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary on the side facing the wide gravel path. Restrooms are available, and your guide will be at the meeting area 15 minutes before the program starts.
This program ends after dark; bring a flashlight if you'd like extra illumination.
The route covers up to two miles on mostly unsurfaced trails with a mix of flat ground, gradual slopes, and one or two hills; exposed roots and rocks are common, and recent weather may make the trail muddy, wet, or slippery.
