Description
As daylight fades, fireflies take the stage, each species with its own blinking 'signature.' Start with a presentation on firefly life cycles and why their lights matter, then head outdoors for an evening walk through the meadows to watch the show.
Along the way, you'll learn how to spot different flash patterns and how to observe (or gently catch and release) without harming these insects. You'll also hear about conservation threats facing fireflies and simple ways you can support them close to home.

Instructions
Meet in the Carriage Barn's presentation space; signs will direct you to the program area. Plan for 0.5-1 mile of wide, unsurfaced trails that are level or gradually sloping. Mosquitoes can be abundant, so bringing bug spray is recommended, and long sleeves and pants can help; be sure to check yourself for ticks afterward. Bring a flashlight if it will make walking at night more comfortable, and if possible, use a red light (or cover your light with red cellophane) to reduce impacts on nocturnal wildlife and help protect other participants' night vision.
