Description
Bird nest designs and construction methods are as innumerable and unique as their builders. From the highly specialized mud nests of a colony of Cliff Swallows to the intentionally rudimentary twig and grass nests of American Robins, nests assure the continuation of future generations. After a short indoor workshop, explore Pleasant Valley under the lens of nest-building while looking for birds around the sanctuary.
The outdoor component of this bird walk will aim to reduce the impact of our presence on actively nesting birds as much as possible, and you'll learn tips to avoid disturbing birds during this critical time of year. The outdoor component of this program will take place on level or gradually sloping trails covering less than 1 mile of distance. Some sections of the trail may be unsurfaced and have exposed tree roots, rocks, or uneven ground.
