Birds Beyond Identification - Waders

Description

Whether you have just dipped your toe into the world of birding or are looking for more reasons to enjoy some of your favorite birds, this program takes a deeper dive into the local avian community. We will start each session with a seasonally focused indoor presentation on topics such as bird physiology, life cycles, unique adaptations, and the evolutionary influences on habitat that birds provide. Our introductory presentation will be followed by an outdoor field session to apply what we covered.

Herons, egrets, bitterns, and ibis - oh my! Discover the long-legged birds of the marshes, ponds and rivers that Marshfield is famous for. Designed to stand tall to keep their feathers dry as they poke and prod for meals in the wetlands, waders have developed specialized tools and habits to ensure their rightful place in the natural community. We will celebrate several iconic species and the habitats they thrive in.
