Birds Beyond Identification - Nests: Building for the Next Generation
Description
Whether you're just dipping your toe into birding or are looking for more reasons to enjoy your favorite birds, this program takes a deeper dive into the local avian community. Each session will begin with a seasonally focused indoor presentation on topics like bird physiology, life cycles, unique adaptations, and the evolutionary influences on habitat that birds provide. Our introductory presentation will be followed by an outdoor field session to apply what we covered.
Shelter and the safety it provides for raising young is essential to all living things. Bird nest design and construction methods are as innumerable and unique as their builders. From highly specialized mud-nests of a colony of Cliff Swallows to the intentional rudimentary nests of American Robins, nests assure the continuation of future generations. Explore nest site choices, architecture, assembly, and the importance they play in courtship and bonding.
