Birds Beyond Identification - Feeding Techniques

Description

Whether you're just dipping your toe into birding or are looking for more reasons to enjoy your favorite birds, this program takes a deeper dive into the local avian community. Each session will begin with a seasonally focused indoor presentation on topics like bird physiology, life cycles, unique adaptations, and the evolutionary influences on habitat that birds provide. Our introductory presentation will be followed by an outdoor field session to apply what we covered.

One of the most impressive things about birds is their ability to locate and process food. Whether it's Chickadees’ ability to increase memory capacity for caching seeds, owls' ability to isolate non-digestible components of prey, or Blackpoll Warblers' capacity to nearly double their weight before migration, birds are amazing eaters. Explore resource partitioning, adaptations, shifting resources, and the evolutionary changes in birds’ physical structure.
