A Birding Year at North River: Spring

Description

Spring is one of the most rewarding times to be a birder on the South Shore and the North River Wildlife Sanctuary attracts an astonishing diversity of birds across the year.

Each month, a skilled Mass Audubon naturalist focuses on one seasonal topic. March uncovers the hidden language of birds as they sing, drum, and perform to attract mates, defend territory, and care for their young. April introduces swallows, agile insect hunters, expert nest-builders, and remarkable long-distance migrants. In May, discover warblers, tiny jewel-toned songbirds whose epic migrations rank among the most extraordinary journeys in the natural world.

Each session begins with a brief introduction before heading into the field, building identification skills and habitat knowledge alongside a community of fellow birders. This is an ideal entry point into a full year of birding at North River.
