Description
The Appalachian Mountains that run through eastern West Virginia are a high-elevation oasis for northern flora and fauna, with a boreal climate uniquely distinct from the surrounding mid-Atlantic geographic region. Large tracts of forest and highly variable topography provide habitat for migrant and breeding warblers reminiscent of northern New England while welcoming a sprinkling of southern species. Venture south with Mass Audubon to explore spruce forests, glacial relic wetlands, and krumholz habitat to prepare for the coming New England songbird migration. Some of the trip's target species include Black Vulture, Red-headed Woodpecker, Acadian Flycatcher, White-eyed Vireo, and Worm-eating, Yellow-throated, Cerulean, Kentucky, and Hooded warblers.
