Spring Migration in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains
Description
Western North Carolina in springtime is a birder's delight. The rich habitats, including grasslands, river valleys, forested corridors, temperate rainforests, and high elevation spruce forests, attract a multitude of neotropical migrants. Along with these birds, the area offers exceptional opportunities to see and hear Southern Appalachian specialties such as Swainson's, Worm-eating, Prothonotary, and Hooded warblers, Summer Tanager, Carolina Chickadee, and much more.
While the places we'll visit provide terrific birding, they also offer breathtaking landscapes. The region blends mountain river valleys with Blue Ridge peaks, rich forests, and dramatic waterfall corridors. From lowland wetlands at Jackson Park to high elevation spruce-fir forests at Mt. Mitchell, our birding route spans impressive elevations of 2000 to over 6600 feet. Along the way, we'll experience rhododendron tunnels, sunlit balds, and sweeping mountain vistas, making each outing both rewarding and memorable.
