Fall Phenomena: Evergreens & the Winter Night Sky

Once the deciduous trees are bare, the evergreens come into their own, and the night sky opens up to reveal its winter chapter. Enter the world of trees, exploring the biology and ecology of New England's evergreens, shrubs, and ground cover plants. You will find out why evergreens retain their leaves year-round and how their adaptations allow them to thrive in winter conditions.

Then, turn skyward, learning how to observe the winter night sky with the naked eye or binoculars, what constellations and stars define this season, and the stories and navigational lore that humans have drawn from these skies for thousands of years.

This program is part of the Fall Phenomena Online Series. Each session stands alone, but if you register for the whole series before it starts on October 8, you get all five sessions for the price of four. Other session topics include beavers, bogs, fungi, woolly bears and more.
