Description
The southwest is an amazing area to birdwatch any time of year. Most people familiar with birdwatching think of southeast Arizona as a must-visit destination. However, New Mexico also hosts an amazing assortment of bird life with one of the highest species lists in the US. The central corridor of New Mexico has a diversity of habitats including desert scrub, riparian woodland, and high-elevation coniferous forest.
As a special highlight, we will explore the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, which is famed for the spectacle of tens of thousands of wintering Sandhill Cranes, Snow Geese, and a variety of other waterfowl. Sandia Crest is a 10,679-foot peak in the Sandia Mountains that offers the chance to see high-elevation species including the three types of North American rosy-finch (Gray-crowned, Black, and Brown-capped).
