Fall Phenomena: Woolly Bears & Fall Galls

Woolly bears and fall galls are two of autumn's most recognizable and least understood natural wonders. First, uncover the truth behind one of fall's most beloved caterpillars, learning where woolly bears are going, what they become, and how they survive freezing temperatures.

Then the session will turn to fall galls, the strange sculptural growths on leaves and stems easily spotted on an autumn walk. Discover what causes them, who lives inside them, and how to find and identify common types in Massachusetts.

This program is part of the Fall Phenomena Online Series. Each session stands alone, but if you register for the whole series before it starts on October 8, you get all five sessions for the price of four. Other session topics include evergreens, bogs, fungi, insects and more.
