Description
Gather for a summer nature play session for families to discover the secrets of a plant that's hard to miss: the Staghorn Sumac. With its fuzzy red berries, it's one of the most distinctive plants at Magazine Beach Park, and full of stories. Learn exactly how sumac got its unusual name, why its berries turn such a vivid red, and how people have been using this plant for thousands of years. Then, we'll carefully harvest a few berries and brew a batch of tart staghorn sumac tea to taste together, finding out firsthand how nature provides for people as well as wildlife.
