Description
Oysters—as interesting as they are delicious—play an important role in coastal ecosystems. Start with a short presentation in the Long Pasture Discovery Center, then head out to the sanctuary's mudflats to meet Barnstable Sea Farms owner Les Hemmila and learn how oysters are grown.
Along the way, explore oyster biology, their role in the ecosystem, and local conservation efforts connected to shellfish and water quality. The tour wraps up with a practical lesson on how to shuck and taste these local favorites.
