In Search of Horseshoe Crabs

Description

Spring is here, and it's the perfect time to highlight our native Atlantic horseshoe crab, a species that dates back 400 million years but faces serious challenges today from habitat loss and growing pressure from human uses.

Starting with an indoor presentation, we'll learn more about ongoing research efforts to protect and understand this incredible species. Then we'll head to the flats to search for horseshoe crabs coming up on the beach to spawn and talk about their behavior, biology, conservation, and management. We'll also discuss and participate in Mass Audubon's horseshoe crab research, including our monitoring and tagging programs.
