Description
Abundant but elusive, the Northern Saw-whet Owl is almost exclusively nocturnal and not especially vocal, so they're rarely seen (or heard) in the wild. To better understand this tiny owl's behavior, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation is actively studying Northern Saw-whet Owls. As part of that study, you can attend a banding demonstration as trained bird banders check mist nets for these owls on the move. If we're lucky enough to capture an owl or two, you'll see how bird banders process and band owls before they are released.
