Science Exploration Through Art: Horseshoe Crabs and Shorebirds

Description

In the spring, Red Knots, a species of sandpiper, stop to feast on the eggs of horseshoe crabs on the Atlantic coast every late spring. The bird's survival is profoundly linked to the crabs, a species older than dinosaurs. Participants will learn why and how we can advocate for the horsecrab and Red Knots continued existence.

In this 2-hour workshop series for teens, silk painter Susan Quateman will teach you how to paint horseshoe crabs and shorebirds onto quality silk scarves using brushes and dyes. Participants will get to work with live horseshoe crab hatchlings and adults for inspiration in each session.
