Hawks of Essex County

Description

As days get shorter and cool winds push down from the northwest, an amazing natural occurrence takes place: hawk migration. Thousands of hawks, eagles, vultures, and falcons tap into the wind's energy as they fly down through Massachusetts to wintering grounds in southern United States, the Caribbean, and Central America. We'll visit a location in Essex County that's noted for its promising opportunities to observe hawks in flight. As they pass over our heads, you'll learn field identification tips and life history information, such as where the hawks are coming from and where they’re going.
