Kick off Bird-a thon with an evening paddle for wetland birds! This evening marks the start of our annual 24-hour fundraiser, held at the height of spring migration, which both celebrates nature and raises funds that provide essential year-round support for Mass Audubon's conservation, nature education, and advocacy.
Whether you are an official strategic birding team member for Bird-a-thon, or you just want to see some great birds with friendly North Shore guides, this is a very special occasion, and all levels of birders are welcome.
Usually, the only opportunity Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary visitors have to observe Virginia Rail, Sora, or Pied-billed Grebe is from a distant observation tower or boardwalk. Tonight, by canoe in the marshes of the Ipswich River, we're aiming for close-up views of many secretive wetland species. We are also likely to encounter Marsh Wren, Swamp Sparrow, and Wood Duck. As the sun sets, we'll listen for the bonus of Barred and Great Horned owls.

Instructions
Meet in front of the Visitor Center at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary. All equipment and basic canoeing instruction will be provided. Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather and the terrain, with moderate inclines and potentially muddy trails. Wear bug spray. Bring binoculars and a drybag if you have one.
Mass Audubon Cancellation Policy: If you wish to withdraw less than seven days prior to the program, refunds cannot be issued. If we cancel the program, you will be refunded in full.
