Description
This three-part series will introduce learning to identify birds by vocalizations. Bird songs and calls are not just useful in bird identification, they are also sources of joy, inspiration, and a doorway into the fascinating world of birds.
Each session will consist of three parts. Participants will receive a list of target birds that will be the focus of the field trip and several resources including web sites where you can practice becoming familiar with these species. This 'homework' will set the stage for the field trip where strategies on learning bird songs and calls will be practiced.
After a couple hours of birdwatching, we'll visit a Mass Audubon sanctuary, and after a break, review the target birds and what we learned using slides, recorded songs, and shared field experiences.

Program locations:
Sat. April 20 - Boxford State Forest (Crooked Pond) and then Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary.
Sat. May 18 - Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and then Joppa Flats Education Center.
Sat. June 1 - Martin Burns Wildlife Management Area and then Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary.
Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather and the terrain with moderate inclines and potentially muddy trails. Bring a field guide and binoculars. Bathroom facilities will not available during this program.
Mass Audubon Cancellation Policy: If you wish to withdraw less than seven days prior to the program, refunds cannot be issued. If we cancel the program, you will be refunded in full.
