Description
Joppa Flats Education Center runs a songbird banding station on the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and its data tracks species diversity, bird movement, population trends, and the effects of climate change.
This free two-part workshop for Mass Audubon members shows how songbird banding works and how to volunteer at the station.
The Tuesday evening virtual session covers the basics of banding, how to identify birds in the hand, and the aids used for aging and sexing them.
The Saturday morning session brings you to the bird banding station to watch the banding process and help collect data.
The workshop is free for Mass Audubon members. For anyone who wants to volunteer at the station, it is required.
