Description
With the first hints of spring, American Woodcocks return to breed and the courtship display that follows is not to be missed. And this program gives you a front-row seat.
Together, we'll listen for a series of nasal peent calls from the ground. Then we'll watch the male spring into the air and spiral upward, often to nearly 300 feet, before zigzaging back down like a falling leaf and lands almost exactly where he started.
When he takes flight, we'll walk toward the spot he left to see whether a female has come in to meet him.
