Description
There's nothing like seeing a tiny migrating songbird up close. At Joppa Flats' bird banding station, Mass Audubon scientists carefully capture birds in specially designed nets, weigh and measure them, check their condition, and attach a uniquely numbered metal band before releasing them back to continue their journey south.
During this family visit, you'll watch the whole process from just a few feet away while our naturalists explain what we learn from decades of banding data and why it matters for bird conservation. It's a rare chance for families to see field science in action alongside the birds themselves.
